Best tennis coaching academies in Hyderabad for adults?
I'm 28 years old and want to learn tennis from scratch. I have zero experience but I'm reasonably fit (I run regularly). Most academies I've seen seem to focus on kids. Are there any good tennis coaching options in Hyderabad for adult beginners? I can commit to 3 sessions per week and my budget is up to ₹5000/month for coaching. Also, do I need to buy a racket upfront or do academies provide them for beginners?

Starting tennis at 28 is absolutely fine! Here are the best options in Hyderabad for adult beginners: **1. SATS (South Asian Tennis Services), Jubilee Hills – ₹4500/month** - Dedicated adult beginner batch (Mon/Wed/Fri 6-7 AM or 6-7 PM) - Certified coaches with international training methodology - They provide rackets for the first month while you learn basics - Clay courts which are easier on your joints as a beginner - This is my top recommendation for adults **2. Secunderabad Club Tennis Section – ₹3500/month** - Need club membership or guest pass - Small batches of 4-5 adults per coach - Hard courts with good lighting for evening sessions - Coach Ravi there is specifically known for teaching adult beginners **3. Ace Tennis Academy, Gachibowli – ₹5000/month** - Professional setup with ball machines and video analysis - Flexible scheduling – you book slots that suit you - They have a "0 to Rally" programme specifically for adults who've never held a racket - Courts are synthetic which is the standard surface in Indian tournaments **About rackets:** Don't buy an expensive racket yet. Most academies provide basic rackets for beginners. After 2-3 months, when you know your playing style, invest in a proper racket. For beginners I recommend the **Wilson Clash 100 v2 (₹7000)** or **Babolat Pure Drive Lite (₹8000)** – both are forgiving on off-centre hits which happens a lot when you're learning. **What you need from day 1:** Tennis shoes (NOT running shoes – you need lateral support). Get Asics Gel Resolution or Nike Court Lite. Budget ₹3000-5000. This is the most important equipment purchase for a beginner.

Just adding some encouragement – I started tennis at 30 in Mumbai and now at 33 I play competitive amateur tournaments. It's one of those sports where adult beginners can progress quickly if they train consistently. My advice: focus on **footwork first**, not strokes. Most beginners obsess over their forehand technique but the real bottleneck is getting to the ball in time. Your running fitness will help enormously here. Also, supplement coaching with **YouTube tutorials from Essential Tennis channel**. Their videos on adult beginner progressions are excellent and free. Watch the video before each class so you know what to focus on. After about 6 months, join the Sportiplay Tennis community for Hyderabad and post LFG for practice partners. Hitting with someone at your level outside coaching hours is what accelerates improvement the most.
